Voice
Mail Instructions
Your Voice Mail service
is easy to use. All mailbox functions are based on single digit
mnemonic commands. For example, your
system may prompt you to press “P”, (the 7 key) to
Play your messages, “M”, (the 6 key) to Make a message,
or “U”, (the 8 key) to access User options.
User
Tutorial
When you “login” to your mailbox for the first time, Voice Mail’s
User Tutorial is automatically activated. The User Tutorial will “talk
you through” your first Voice Mail session including setting up your
mailbox with a personalized greeting, name, and pass code.
When you first call the access number (See Exhibit 1 for the
access number for your exchange), Voice Mail will require you
to enter your temporary pass code (1234). During the User Tutorial,
you will be prompted to enter your own personal 4 to 10 digit
pass code which you will always use to enter your mailbox. Before
beginning the User Tutorial, think of a pass code you will remember
and a personal greeting you wish your callers to hear.
Greetings
You will be asked to record a greeting that callers will hear when they reach
your mailbox. Think about the greeting, write it down, and then record. Although
you can change your greeting at any time, the recording usually goes smoother
when you already have your message planned and written out.
Name
You will be prompted to record your name so that the system can address you
when you call in to the system.
Pass
Code
You will always be prompted for your Pass Code before accessing your mailbox.
The first time you access your mailbox, you will use the temporary Pass Code,
1-2-3-4, assigned by Smithville Telephone Company. During the tutorial, you
will be prompted to change your Pass Code to a number with 4 to 10 digits.
Please select a Pass Code that will be easy to remember.
First
Time Set Up for Smithville Telephone Customers:
- First dial your access number (See Exhibit 1 to get the access number for
your exchange).
- The system will ask for your mailbox number (enter your telephone number).
- The system will begin to ask you to leave a message, but you will press the “*” (STAR)
key on your keypad.
- Next the system will ask for your password. You will enter the four digits,
1-2-3-4.
- The system will now prompt you through the set up process.
Retrieving
Your Messages
From
Home
When you pick up your telephone handset, a stutter dial tone will occur and
be an indicator that you have new messages to retrieve. Dial your access number.
The Voice Mail system will greet you and ask for your pass code. Once you enter
your pass code, you will hear how many new and how many saved messages are
in your mailbox. You will then be prompted how to play back your messages.
Note:
If you have a non-published number or subscribe to per line blocking, you must
dial *82 prior to dialing your access number.
Away
From Home
When retrieving messages from a remote location outside your
home, you will dial your access number (see Exhibit 1 to
get the access number for your exchange),
enter your phone number at the prompt, then press the “*” (STAR)
key. The voice mail prompt will then ask you to enter your pass code. You will
be advised how many new and saved messages are in your mailbox. You will then
be able to begin playing your messages.
At any time during the message playback you can press:
-“*” (STAR) to move back 5 seconds
-“#” (POUND) to move forward 5 seconds
