$2.00 per month for residential service and $2.50 for Business service

Yes, next year but the amount of that increase will be substantially less but exact amounts have not been determined.

No, it was determined by other agencies that the rate rebalancing would be a better way to support high cost customers.

Yes, Smithville was a part of a group of companies that fought this change all the way to the Indiana Supreme Court.
Will this increase revenues to Smithville Telephone Company?
No, Smithville at the end of this process will have the same revenue as when we started.
Is this the same as the USF surcharge?
No, this will be in addition to the surcharge that will show-up as a separate line item on your bill.
How much will the surcharge be?
This is determined by a formula given to us by the appropriate regulatory agencies and will be .0538% of your Intrastate retail services.
What are included in Intrastate retail services?
Intrastate services would include basic telephone, call features, DSL service among others.
Will either rate increase, the USF surcharge or the rate rebalancing, affect the rates charged by AT&T, Insight or the cellular companies?
The surcharge % must be assessed by all telecommunications carriers, so that would include AT&T, Verizon and the telecommunications arms of the cable companies. The rate rebalancing requirement applies only to RLECs (Rural Local Exchange Carriers) whose rates are below the targeted rate and does not include Verizon or AT&T.
